I always wanted to visit the famous classic car station Grosstankstelle Brandshof in Hamburg. My friend and collaborator Christopher Butt took "Zwei Fliegen mit einer Klappe" and proposed to stage a presentation of our Car Design Asia just there last June 12th.
Welcoming us in this fantastic vintage location were co-owner Alex Piatschek and his most friendly staff. Although I promised to keept myself short, I ended up speaking for more than one hour—luckily, nobody fell asleep. Between a magic sunset and two busy railway lines this was difficult though...
Among us, many cute japanese classics: Honda S800 and S2000, a lineup of Fairlady Zs and ZXs, the inevitable Celica MkI and a rare Suzuki Cappuccino. (oh yes, and a Miata). For the occasion I took my HZJ 77 Land Cruiser to Hamburg, surely the most morbid of all offroad wagons—one rigorously imported "From Japan with love".
After a long evening, I was happy to be back the next day accompanied by Bernd Wieland and a bunch of his collaborators at AutoBild. A brand new, electric blue Sklyine GT-R was just the right vehicle to show up for a perfect lunch.
Good to know: Brandshof must purvey the world’s best Tankstellenfood!
